What is MicUp?

MicUp is a real-time microphone processing app for Android. It captures your mic input, runs it through a DSP effects chain, and routes the processed audio to a virtual microphone โ€” so every app on your phone (Discord, Teams, Zoom, WhatsApp, etc.) hears the cleaned-up, processed version of your voice.

No PC required. No monthly subscription.

Features

  • Built-in DSP chain โ€” Noise Gate, 10-band EQ, Compressor, Reverb, Pitch Shifter
  • Plugin support โ€” Load LV2, CLAP, and VST3 native plugins (.so, .clap, .lv2)
  • Open plugin files โ€” Tap a plugin file in your file manager to import it directly
  • Monitor toggle โ€” Hear your processed audio through headphones, or silence it while still routing to other apps
  • Shizuku support โ€” ADB-level ALSA loopback routing without full root
  • Three virtual mic tiers โ€” VoIP stream (no root), Shizuku (ADB), or Magisk (full root)
  • Live VU meters โ€” Input, output, and gain reduction metering
  • Preset system โ€” Save and load your effect configurations
  • Built-in crash reporter โ€” Crash logs auto-shared for easy bug reporting

How Shizuku is used

Can expose processed microphone audio as a virtual mic via `modprobe`, `tinymix` and `appops` shell commands through Shizuku.

This is an AI-assisted analysis of Shizuku-related usages in the app's public source code. It is best effort, so it may not catch every single usage.

How this app uses Shizuku

Shizuku is used to enable an ADB level virtual microphone tier that presents processed audio as a separate mic device to other apps.

  • Load virtual audio device: loads the ALSA loopback module so processed audio appears as a mic device, using the modprobe snd-aloop shell command through Shizuku.
  • Route audio to loopback: routes audio output to the loopback capture side for other apps to use as input, using the tinymix 'Loopback Mixer' shell command through Shizuku.
  • Allow microphone access: sets the microphone app operation to allowed for the app package, using the appops set RECORD_AUDIO allow shell command through Shizuku.

Android APIs or commands used

  • modprobe snd-aloop pcm_substreams=2
  • insmod /system/lib/modules/snd-aloop.ko
  • tinymix
  • appops set

Notable details

Without Shizuku the app still provides microphone processing through its built in software routing tiers, Shizuku only adds the virtual mic device presentation.

Changelog

What's new for version 1.0.6

This release focuses on stability and audio quality โ€” especially for Android 14 and Shizuku users.

Fixed

  • Crash on Android 14+ when the microphone service started while the app wasn't in the foreground
  • Shizuku could fail to be detected if it wasn't ready at app launch (now auto-upgrades once available)
  • Removed a permission misconfiguration that could block Shizuku's ADB-level routing
  • Runaway restart loop on audio stream errors (now capped with backoff)
  • Battery optimization prompt no longer nags on every launch once exempted

Improved

  • Rewrote the audio monitor pipeline (16-bit โ†’ 32-bit float, dedicated worker thread) for smoother, glitch-free monitoring
  • Manually switch between VoIP / Software Loopback / Shizuku / Root tiers in Settings, with clear reasons when a tier isn't available
  • Pick your monitor output device (headset, speaker, earpiece, etc.) โ€” now remembered across restarts
  • "Hear yourself" monitor toggle now persists between sessions
