Ahead-of-time (AOT) bytecode compilation and dexopt runtime manager for Android applications
Dexor
Unified DEX2OAT Runtime & Ahead-Of-Time (AOT) Bytecode Manager for Android
What is Dexor?
Dexor is a modern, non-root Android utility that puts you in control of how your applications are compiled and executed by the Android Runtime (ART).
By leveraging Shizuku to interface safely with Android's internal compilation service (cmd package compile), Dexor lets you trigger on-demand and batch Ahead-Of-Time (AOT) compilation without requiring root access.
How it Works (Why You Need It)
When Android apps are installed or updated, they consist of Dalvik Executable (DEX) bytecode. To execute this code quickly, the Android Runtime (dex2oat) compiles bytecode into native machine code.
- The Default Behavior: Normally, Android only runs full AOT compilation during idle maintenance—when your device is connected to a charger, at 100% battery, and completely untouched overnight (
bg-dexopt). Otherwise, apps run through Just-In-Time (JIT) interpretation, leading to initial launch delays and micro-stutters while code compiles on the fly. - The Dexor Solution: Dexor unlocks immediate, granular control over this process. You can force-compile demanding apps or games to
speedmode to eliminate JIT warmups, or revert unneeded apps toverifymode to reclaim gigabytes of storage space—all with a single tap.

Key Features
- Elevated AOT Compilation Without Root: Utilizes Shizuku IPC to safely execute native
cmd package compilecommands without modifying system partitions. - Deep Dexopt State Inspection: Inspect real-time compiler filters (
speed, space, verify, everything), compilation trigger reasons (cmdline,install,bg-dexopt), and APK path details for every installed package. - Batch Optimization Pipeline: Select multiple apps across user and system categories to compile sequentially, featuring live progress indicators and estimated time calculations.
- Instant Search & Multi-Criteria Filtering: Filter between User and System apps, and sort instantly by App Name, DEX Status, or Package Source.
- 100% Offline & Private:
android.permission.INTERNETis completely absent from the manifest. Dexor does not collect telemetry, track usage, or display advertisements. - Lightweight & High Performance: Built with Jetpack Compose, an asynchronous coroutine pipeline, in-memory Room caching, and compressed to just 3.16 MB with R8 full minification.
Compilation Modes
Dexor exposes Android's native compilation filters so you can balance runtime execution performance with device storage:
| Mode | Filter Flag | How It Works | Storage Impact | Best Used For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Speed | speed |
Force-compiles all accessible bytecode methods into native machine code. Eliminates JIT compilation stutters. | High | Games, daily drivers, and performance-sensitive apps. |
| Space | space |
Compiles core application initialization and entry points only. | Low–Medium | General apps where saving disk space is prioritized over peak velocity. |
| Verify | verify |
Validates DEX bytecode structure without generating native machine code. Reverts the app to the raw JIT interpreter. | Minimum | Reclaiming maximum storage space from rarely used apps. |
| Everything | everything |
Exhaustively compiles every method and resolves all class references unconditionally. | Maximum | Complete native execution across entire APK codebase. |
Requirements
- Android Version: Android 9.0 to Android 15 (API 28 – 35)
- Privilege Manager: Shizuku (v13.1.5 or newer) running via Wireless Debugging, ADB, or Root
Note
Shizuku is required to grant Dexor the elevated permissions needed to trigger package compilation. If Shizuku is inactive, Dexor operates in a read-only inspection mode. Visit the Shizuku Setup Guide for setup instructions.
Installation
- Download the latest
app-release.apkfrom GitHub Releases. - Install the APK on your Android device.
- Ensure Shizuku is running, then launch Dexor and grant permission when prompted.
Building from Source

Privacy & Security
Dexor adheres strictly to privacy-first Android development:
- Zero Network Permissions: No
INTERNETpermission requested. Network access is physically impossible. - Zero Trackers: No analytics SDKs, crash report beacons, or third-party advertising libraries.
- System Integrity: Operates strictly through Android's documented package management endpoints; system partitions remain untouched.

How Shizuku is used
Can compile apps with selectable optimization modes and read compilation status via Shizuku shell using `cmd package compile` and `dumpsys package dexopt`.
This is an AI-assisted analysis of Shizuku-related usages in the app's public source code. It is best effort, so it may not catch every single usage.
How this app uses Shizuku
Dexor uses Shizuku to run privileged package optimization and status commands that normal apps cannot run.
- Compile single app: pick an installed app and an optimization mode (verify, space, speed, everything) to force ahead of time compilation with the
cmd package compileshell command through Shizuku. - Batch compile apps: select multiple apps and apply one optimization mode to all of them in sequence with the same
cmd package compileshell command through Shizuku. - View optimization status: browse each app with its current compiler status and reason, loaded in bulk and refreshed per app with the
dumpsys package dexoptshell command through Shizuku.
Android APIs or commands used
cmd package compile -m -fdumpsys package dexopt
Notable details
Without Shizuku the app still lists installed apps from cached data, but fresh optimization status and compiling remain unavailable.
Changelog
What's new for version 1.0
Dexor v1.0.0 — Initial Release
Dexor is a modern, non-root Android ahead-of-time (AOT) bytecode compilation and runtime management utility powered by the Android Runtime (dex2oat) and Shizuku.
✨ Key Features
- Non-Root Elevated Compilation: Harnesses Shizuku IPC to trigger Android's native
cmd package compileendpoints safely without rooting your device. - Deep Runtime & Dexopt Inspection: Real-time inspection of active compiler filters (
speed, space, verify, everything), compilation trigger reasons (cmdline,install,bg-dexopt), and APK locations. - Supported Compilation Modes:
speed: Force-compiles all accessible app bytecode methods into native machine code. Eliminates JIT compilation stutter and maximizes runtime responsiveness.space: Compiles core entry points and initialization routines. Balances disk conservation with app launch responsiveness.verify: Validates DEX bytecode structures without producing native machine code. Resets compiled state and reclaims maximum device storage space.everything: Exhaustively compiles all classes, methods, and auxiliary DEX files unconditionally for 100% native execution.
